Journalist and wine critic Monica Larner visited Il Borro to taste its wines.

The results confirm the hard work of our enologist Stefano Chioccioli, with Salvatore Ferragamo, CEO of Il Borro, and of the entire winemaking team at Il Borro.

Alessandro dal Borro IGT Toscana (100% Syrah) was awarded 94/100 points for the 2012 vintage and 93/100 for 2011.

This wine comes from Ferruccio Ferragamo’s great passion for the terroir and its iconic variety, the Syrah. A dedicated, permanent and fully sustainable activity in the vineyards and the attention for the varietal selection, has led, thanks to the wise advice of our oenologist Stefano Chioccioli and the support of Salvatore Ferragamo, to create this cru: a product that, for its organoleptic traits, reminds one of the nobility and greatness of one of the first owners of Il Borro, Alessandro dal Borro, from whom the wine takes its name.

Alessandro dal Borro 2012 has an intense and dark colour with violet tones. To the nose it reveals its complexity: elegant, rich in red and black fruits, but with notes of green and black pepper and a hint of balsamic. The flavour is full, complex and powerful, yet well balanced thanks to its soft tannins that make way for a slightly fruity and spicy aftertaste.

This wine is ideal with hors d’oeuvres, pasta with tomato sauce, ripe cheeses, stews of meat or game meat like deer and wild boar, all grilled or oven-baked red meat. It also pairs well with duck and turkey.
