Terroir

Our terroir, the unique climate and a strong territorial connotation

Il Borro vineyards at the foot of Pratomagno enjoy a privileged position for vine cultivation: mild winters, proper humidity and an excellent exposure tie in well with a soil geologically characterized by the waters of the great lakes that in the Pliocene era covered the entire surrounding valley. The parent rock is sandstone or strong stone, the base of a medium-textured soil rich in skeleton with a sandy-clayey matrix, a poor soil, yet ideal for the needs of the vine.

The vineyards

Analysis and detailed research have conditioned every choice: from the variety to the clones to the rootstocks. Nothing was left to chance. These are the 85 hectares, located between 300 and 500 meters above sea level and divided into the different cultivated varieties so that each one can express to the utmost its qualities.

Valdarno di Sopra DOC

The Valdarno DOC was recognized in 2011 certifying this territory as one of great value which since Renaissance times has been considered ideal for the production of great wines. The DOC thus represents a sort of continuation of the winemaking tradition of the Tuscan Grand Duchy.

The designation of origin “Val d’Arno di Sopra” or “Valdarno di Sopra” is attributed to wines which meet the conditions and requirements prescribed by the wine regulations for the following wine types: White and quality sparkling wine, Red wine, Rosés including quality sparkling wine, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah, Sauvignon and Passito sweet wine.
